10:30 AM ET 09.01 | The Rangers will open a vital series at Oakland on Monday. Will shortstop-catalyst Elvis Andrus be in the lineup? Andrus came out of a 2-1 win against Minnesota on Saturday night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington during the first inning because of muscle spasms in his lower back. That took away a key part of an offense that finally came to life in the ninth inning to score the winning run on a two-out single by Leonys Martin. The win did not lessen concerns about Andrus. He reached on a single but labored while running from first to third on a single by Ian Kinsler. Manager Ron Washington bolted from the dugout and quickly removed Andrus, who was getting a break with a start at designated hitter. The club described Andrus' status as the generic "day-to-day." Andrus will not play Sunday, but Washington said he expects to have him for the series-opener against Oakland. Losing Andrus for any period would hurt the Rangers. He played a vital role in the August awakening, hitting .303 from the No. 2 spot.
