Raiders release Tyler Wilson

08:12 PM ET 09.01 | There probably isn't a worse quarterback situation in the NFL right now than that of the Oakland Raiders. Even the Buffalo Bills might have a more enviable position, which says just about everything you need to know. Both Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor have looked woeful during the preseason, so it comes with a bit of shock that the Raiders decided to cut fourth-round draft pick Tyler Wilson. Wilson, who was the 112th overall pick out of Arkansas, struggled with mental aspects of the game, so much so that the Raiders front office and coaching staff felt he was expendable - just months after drafting him in the fourth round.

Will be at least be practice squad material?

September 1, 2013  10:13 PM ET

Wow, released by the Raiders. That's like being released by the Browns, ouch!

September 1, 2013  10:21 PM ET

Are you serious? They already cut Tyler Wilson? WTF are the Raiders thinking? They JUST drafted the guy!! It takes time to learn how to be an NFL QB!

Sheesh. At least give him ONE REGULAR SEASON GAME before cutting him...

JaMarcus, Tyler Wilson both "struggle with the mental aspects of the game"? Sounds like the Raiders draft idiots as quarterbacks.

4th round draft pick doesn't make the team? This is not newsworthy.

Business as usual at Raiders headquarters.

They had Wilson, McGloin, Pryor and Flynn on the roster. One had to go. Who would you have selected?

September 1, 2013  11:05 PM ET

McGloin out played Wilson when he actually played. If Wilson actually clears waivers (doubtful, I know) he can be brought back and put on the practice squad. Said this weeks ago when he was on the sideline and McGloin looked good.

How can anyone say the word "worse," "quarterback" and "NFL" unless the sentence also includes "the Jets?"

Seriously, that's been the worst for 2 years now, and it's not getting any better.

September 1, 2013  11:11 PM ET

The Jets and Bills don't have much going on at the QB position either.

If it wasn't a QB for a QB-starved team, it wouldn't.

"Struggled with the mental aspects of the game"--please explain?
All rookies have a lot to learn, so what was different about Wilson?

But they got 4 of them and 2 punters! Are we really sure that Al the impaler is dead?
