07:17 AM ET 09.02 | Yes, Joe Flacco was surprised to see a giant picture of himself hanging outside Denver's home stadium. The signage sparked outrage from fans, and a segment of the local news media, after the NFL and Pepsi erected the posters to promote Thursday's NFL Kickoff game between the Broncos and the Ravens. ... Flacco laughed when he heard several posters had been defaced with mustaches and duct tape. "I think it's all deserved. I don't know if it's deserved toward me, but I happened to be the guy they put up there," Flacco said on a conference call. "I don't think anybody here, or anyone in our city, would be too happy if we had somebody else from a different team on our stadium. I wouldn't expect anything different than the people in Denver being pretty upset about it."

Pure class response.

The NFL and Pepsi aren't too bright, but Flacco sure said the right things.

The big mistake by the NFL and Pepsin was putting the posters up so early. If they had done it game day or the day before less time for outrage from Denver fans and it would've been less in their faces.

Classy response. But wouldn't have expected anything less from him.

this would be like putting Ben Roethliberger's face on Baltimore's stadium. Baltimore fans would be upset.

It was a dumb thing to do.

But it did bring a lot if attention to the game. From a marketing stand point it was a good move.

The NFL has achieved precisely what they sought - reams of free publicity. What do they care if Denver fans are outraged? Are fans going to not watch the game? (The only thing that fans could do to "punish" the league) Of course it was obnoxious, tasteless and insulting. Welcome to Roger Goddell's NFL. The only thing Broncos' fans could do to protest is chant, "Go to hell, Goddell" throughout the game.

Ultimately though Broncos fans have bigger concerns - like a defense that has looked porous and an offense that has struggled thru the preseason.

That's what I thought when I read it, too.

Just the same, the Denver crowd will be the 12th man on the field in this one.
