The end of Bard's saga in Boston

07:25 AM ET 09.02 | Had things worked out the way the Red Sox planned, Koji Uehara wouldn't have earned his 16th save Sunday -- instead, Daniel Bard would have been the guy. A few hours before finishing a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 7-6 cuticle chomper at Fenway Park, the Red Sox designated [Bard] for assignment -- a move that was required to open a 40-man roster spot for recently acquired outfielder Quintin Berry. Is this really what it has come to for Bard? ... Now, the Red Sox have 10 days to work out a trade or let Bard go. If he clears waivers, they can release him or outright him to the minor leagues. If Bard is lucky, he'll get a new life somewhere else. "It can help, but to say that that's the sole reason, that would be wishful thinking," Sox manager John Farrell said.

What a freaking train wreck this dude turned out to be.

Bard might get a minor league invite in 14 from some team with no guarantees.

It's all in his head, Boston has got to be a tough play, when expectations are high!

I hate it when my bard's saga ends, as I am then left looking for further entertainment.

He probably needs a change of scenery, start over with a different set of coaches and teammates.

Relievers come & go - one day they are unhitable - the next you have to hide behind the batting screens.
