07:31 AM ET 09.02 | "What we thought happened did happen," Georgia coach Mark Richt said Sunday, and it wasn't good news for Malcolm Mitchell in Athens. The junior wide receiver did indeed suffer a season-ending ACL injury on his right knee in Saturday night's loss to Clemson. Mitchell hurt the knee when he landed on it awkwardly after jumping to "air bump" with tailback Todd Gurley in celebration of Gurley's 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter of the Bulldogs' 38-35 loss to Clemson. He will have surgery in the coming weeks and be awarded a medical redshirt to reclaim a year of eligibility. ... Mitchell has had problems with the knee since this past spring when he minor surgery to repair a meniscus tear. He was also sidelined briefly midway through preseason camp due to swelling.

Am I the only one "laboring" on this wonderful Labor Day.

Or, do I have SEC speed?

I'm surprised something like this hasn't happened sooner. You have to feel for the guy.

Yeah I always thought those celebrations were ripe for injury potential. Reminds me of the moron Redskins QB that headbutted the wall after a TD injured his neck and wrecked his career.

How many times have we seen a guy score a TD, pause to give thanks, and someone jumps on his back while he's not looking? I cringe every time.

Who was that? If I remember he had couple of bad years and finally caught on and was doing good

Star player lost for the season due to an injury during celebration. Sounds like the " football gods" are not on UGA's side this season.

All I know is, Georgia better beat South Carolina this coming weekend, or their season will be lost. IMO!!

AZ Cardinals kicker jacked up his legs when he got hurt jumping up and down after a FG a few years ago....

Maybe its time for a public awarness campaign for safe celebrating.

C'mon man! It's the SEC. Everyone knows that a two loss SEC team is still better than any other non-SEC team in the country.

Last Thursday the guys on ESPN radio were debating whether a 3 loss SEC team should be picked over a 1 loss team from any other conference ... in an 8 game playoff.

We haven't even started the 4 team playoff yet.

This kind of nonsense is why the post season play off should be a tournament of conference champions. If the good people of the NCAA will appoint me Czar of CFB, I will bring sanity to the conference affiliations, eliminate the need for a play off committee, include every state in the Union with at least one FBS school, and bring the top 79 schools into a true Division 1.

Shameless shills. Disney has taught them well. Walt: "Remember that this was all started by a mouse." Also: "Where the party never ends."

We're deep at WR so we should be okay. Even though Mitchel IS really good.

WR isn't our issue though.
