The NHL's most fearless player

07:34 AM ET 09.02 | If blocked shots is your measure, the Rangers' Dan Girardi is your man. It takes a special kind of player to be willing to put his body on the line for his team on a regular basis. ... [Girardi] said he plans to wear a visor this season after seeing fellow Rangers defenseman Marc Staal take a deflected shot in the eye late last season. Given Girardi's willingness to use his body to stop pucks and opponents, it's amazing he's lasted this long without one. Girardi led the NHL in blocked shots this past season and has been in the top six in each of the past four seasons, a span in which he's missed a total of four games. Add that to an average of just under 191 hits per season (including a pro-rated 179 for 2012-13) for those four seasons and you get a player who collects a lot of bruises.

The NHL's most fearless player?

Stupid headline. How do you measure fearlessness? That's like GW Bush seeing into Putin's heart by shaking hands with the weasel.

BTW, I'm not taking anything away from the young man. He has cohones. No doubt about that but .... most fearless?

Maybe the dumbest?

I'm more inclined to side with you, but the kid managed to avoid the puck in the face like Staal. He can't be that dumb.

So he falls down a lot and takes pucks to the head. Meh!

Doesn't Chara do the same? :-)

By June he probably looks like an over ripe banana.

But Chara doesn't dive because we all know how much Claude hates diving.

Haaaa! Seeing that isn't a shocker. Marchand tries to play gritty, but he's worse than most for diving! Funny video!

I wonder how much shot blocking the Rangers will do now that Torts has departed.

Let me know when Girardi has a Norris trophy on his mantle and a SC ring on his finger.

Um .... I think I'll defer to Hank on this one. He'll be far more objective with Chara than I could ever be. :-)

I'd cast my most fearless NHL player vote to Patrice Bergeron.
