07:39 AM ET 09.02 | Will he be tempted? Perennial NHL all-star Alex Ovechkin has an affinity for his former KHL club. The 27-year-old, three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner started his career with Dynamo Moscow -- and returned to play with his former Russian team during the most recent NHL lockout. Now, according to a report from Russia's IRAR-TASS news agency, it seems Moscow might be looking to lure Ovechkin away from the Washington Capitals for good. "Ovechkin has a current contract with the Capitals," Dynamo Moscow's general director Andrey Safronov told IRAR-TASS. "Can we try to pull him out? We'll talk, we'll look at each other and will have some result. Right now all Russian national team players want to come back to their homeland."

KHL wants Ovechkin?

I think Ovechkin is ready for the KHL. Easy money when you consider you're not getting beat up to a pulp to earn it. I can see him joining Kuntvalchuk over there.

I don't see it happening, but who knows? Of course the story comes from one of hockey's most reliable sources.........the Toronto Sun. Only thing that would make it even more rock solid would be if the Weekly World News picks it up.

Bottom line, I don't much care if it's true or not. But it makes a good TMZ clip.

I can see more players from Russia who've been here a few years going back home to a hero's welcome in the near future. They'll get payed very good money to play a game that is far less rigorous than in the NHL.

It's very appealing ...... except for the flying part.

"Ovechkin has a current contract with the Capitals" Kovy's "current contract" with the Devils didn't stop him from heading back to mother Russia.

Actually, I agree that you make a very good point. It'll be a couple of years before it's clear what kind of effect this effort by the KHL is going to have. Being truthful though I really don't care very much. There is a growing number of talented American kids as well as other Euro's who can take up the slack just fine if the best Russians stay over there. And Canadians continue to make up the NHL's core and they're staying right there for all time I think.

The headline I want to see is, "KHL LOOKING TO LURE BETTMAN" Then isolate him in a gulag so he can do no more damage to hockey leagues.

Excellent thought CI. I'll get on board with that one.

Great idea! His first move? Put an expansion team in Kamchatka!

Not too bad CI. The Indians were fun for a while (and the Nats have been hot and cold in DC) Been hot as the hinges of Hades here this summer so I'm actually looking forward to AHL hockey here in 6 weeks or so. Looking forward to Hershey and the Caps too. Hope things get better with the Habs after their bumpy ending last year too. That's the great thing about hockey (and all sports for that matter). Doesn't matter how crummy it ended last year...........it starts at 0-0 again soon! Drop the puck.

Habs didn't draft any game changers IMO, we'll see. No cup since 93 is getting pretty depressing. Summer got a late start here. June was a complete disaster. Been hot since though. I'll take it because the snow is coming!!

If they wanna go then I say let em. I like Ovie's skills, but if Russians want to be like that and play in a league where the speed issue gives no choice but to tailor its product for the youth..........and that's why they play crappy hockey there! Please check out some games and tell me that a lot of pee wee games are faster.

Oh.....if they all go back though.......we will have NHL Olympic hockey forever, or until someone gets bombed. Sorry Hank. :(

When I said youth I meant pee wee, or Atom.
