Giants work out Wells, Dwyer and Washington

07:15 AM ET 09.04 | Coach Tom Coughlin hinted this past week that Big Blue may have some interest in a veteran running back, and that hint has taken some shape. With Andre Brown on the mend, the Giants running back position is, once again, in flux. And nothing could illustrate the point better than the list of names dropping by the team's facility Tuesday. According to multiple people with knowledge of the situation, veteran running backs Beanie Wells, Jonathan Dwyer and Leon Washington came in for workouts. The people requested anonymity because the team does not make workouts official. The visits do not indicate that any signing is imminent, and are typically just a way for teams to test the validity of different players.

Man... The Giants are really hurting.

Too bad.

Very too bad.

<fingers crossed>

Well...that's a shame.

September 4, 2013  08:27 AM ET

It's not like they are looking for a starter

September 4, 2013  08:53 AM ET

The Giants need a second decent RB to share carries with Wilson. The concern about Wilson is that he won't be durable enough to sustain 20 or more carries per game for the entire season. Plus, they need a back who is better at pass blocking. The loss of Brown is not an easy fix.

It is about blocking , pass protection and short yardage. They don't trust Wilson in those spots and they do not trust Scott or the rookie Cox to do it. And they shouldn't.

Dwyer, if healthy, is the choice...so says I.

They are not very good right now. DBs are a mess and nothing special on a good day. Romo should light them up. He has before. Bryant will think he is playing seven on seven two hand touch.

I have a feeling that Dez is going to think that a lot this season, 50.

If he stays healthy - the league had better look out.

I agree; however, Romo can't throw the ball when he is on his back. that o-line...WOW!!

Absolutely agree. A top five NFL WR. Maybe higher. You don't get to that level just on talent, I applaud the work he must have put in to get to that level..Hope he does not tear it up Sunday, but if he does, then he deserves it and good for him.

No problem.

Jerry signed Watters.

Fixed everything.

The one area on defense where the Cowboys might be the most vulnerable is up the middle. They have absolutely zero deph at DT. If the Giants were settled there with their running game, I would be really worried.

That said - I am still not comfortable with this game. You and I both know how these matchups go... You NEVER know.

You know, I think that's exactly how Jerry's mind works.

The three on the list can all help in special ways, but Washington is an older version of Wilson so he's out. Beanie showed glimpses as having the most similar game to Brown. But, I agree with you that Dwyer would probably make the most sense as an off-type compliment.

I just see too many flaws in the Giants that were not fixed. No LBs worth a thing and DBs thinned out and ordinary to begin
with.

Hate that the last few years this is the first opponent. I think division opponents should be later in the season. Romo has carved up that secondary in the past, he has that ability. He was never the problem , he just sometimes does what Eli does, he tries to do too much to make up for other team problems and ends up taking the blame..

I trust Coughlin and Reese to make the best decision on who, or if, to add a RB. I would, but they know all of the circumstances,

At this point, though, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel with the available choices.

He put it together toward the end of last season and was almost unstoppable, so yes, I expect him to be one of the most dominant receivers in the league this year. Against the Giants, if Romo can avoid the initial rush and extend the play even a little, Bryant could get free for big gains every time. Not optimistic about this weekend.

We keep talking about the o-line and what a mess it is, and you mentioned DT, but they could lose the game just as easy with special teams play. They were flat awful in the preseason.

Some would say that. Not looking for a long term fix, just a band aid....

Do they still have Ryan Torrain on the roster.

Showed promise with the Skins, until injuries did him in.
