Source: Boss doesn't fault Torre
As of this morning, Joe Torre. A person who speaks to George Steinbrenner on a regular basis said the Yankees' owner doesn't yet believe his team is out of the race, doesn't fault Torre for the team's brutal run of bad injury luck and, as of last night, wasn't considering firing the only manager he's had since 1996.

torre is just trying to get through this last year of his contract.
do you think for one second that he cares. half the starters are washed up, including the burnt out rocket. he's finished and you'll see that
by july. the first move they should make is buy out torre and send him on his way.

As much as I hate to say it, TORRE has to go. Fruk Mattingly, Girardi the the answer and he's right in the post-game booth.

winning the division all but one time sine 96 isn't good enough for you bighurt. One bad start and now he's the worst manager? I suggest before your open your mouth, you should know what you're talking about. Joe won without superstars in his lineup up until they started signing big name contracts. Plus, how can he manager when most of his starters are injured. If Joe is overrated, then all of these other managers should be fired if they don't finish 1st in their division. Even the best managers can't do anything about rash of injuries. Bighurt, you make no sense with your comments without any proof of evidence. You are like the lawyers who let OJ get away with murder, incompetent.

It's not about whether or not Torre is a good manager. He's a great manager. But the Yankees need a change, a new spark to get them back to there winning ways.

A monkey could win a division every year with that payroll. Wkndwarrior your mind is clouded or you are just stupid. JOE ALWAYS HAD Great players that WERE PICKED UP AS FREE AGENTS WITH BIG CONTRACTS you CLOWN. Are you kidding me you fool? The 90's yankees had....paul O'neill, tino martinez, David cone, david wells, cecil fielder, strawberry, gooden, jimmy key to name a FEW...these players were ALL stars...maybe you should get your facts straight...torre wouldnt be a manager in baseball if he was in charge of any other team...

As a Rabid Red Sox Fan my whole life, I love seeing the Yankees sitting on the bottom of the standings. I do not, however, even begin to think that it is the fault of Torre. Should some changes be made? of course. The changes should be ones that wake the players up...start by getting rid of the Steroid Goon in the lineup.

bighurt, again you managed to open up your mouth and idiotic comments come out. Strawberry, gooden, fielder, david cone, david wells were ALL STARS before they came to the yankees, MORON. Downward phase of their careers. Strawberry and gooden played for chump change because they needed fresh starts. Tino also had better numbers with seattle. Once again you make idiotic comments as you have no idea what you are talking about. And yeah, you think it was easy to win that division year after year with boston and their lineups over the years. If toronto and baltimore was in other divisions during the 90's they would goto the playoffs. The only monkey here is you. Please learn some more facts before you open your big mouth.

Bighurt, you are pretty much saying that the best team on paper should always win. If any monkey can manage a great team, why don't the best team win it all? Well, guess who won last year, the cardinals. Was Leyland a bad manager because he lost to the cardinals? The best team on paper should always win all the time. You really think Torre wouldn't get any offers if he leaves the Yankees. Torre has a better chance at getting another job than you getting any kind of job with your brain. Not even a hot dog vendor.

Obviously Torre isnt the problem for the Yankees. He has an outstanding record as the manager for the Yankees. Just because he has one start of a year being bad doesnt mean he should be fired.. Does Steinbrenner not remember all the Torre has done for the Yanks orginization?

Hey Bighurt, just wondering how Buck Showalter did with the Yanks, because if any "monkey" could manage those Yankee teams, Im wondering why he got canned.
Joe Torre may not make the best on field managerial decisions(i feel like thats what the team lost when Don Zimmer left), but the way he is with players off the field is the reason for the Yanks sucess over the past 10 years. Most Yankee fans are spoiled because they began watching the team in 1996 when it all began. I remember the 1980's and early to mid '90's when the stadium was empty and the team was horrible. He helped save the franchise and should be remembered for that. I don't know what the problem with the team is, and it very well may be Joe Torre, but hearing the respect that guys like Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Cano(core players) have for Torre, leads me to believe that firing him will not have a good effect on the clubhouse.
I think the only option is to finish out the season with Torre, then figure out if you're gonna stick with Torre and change up the team next year or if Mattingly or Girardi is your guy. Until then, hope for the best, and pray the team begins hitting..SOON!!

wknd warrior...why dont you check the stats on these guys when they were winning the world series in the 90's...past there prime...maybe a couple of them were but these guys were still very very good. The yanks were winning with the the long ball and high batting averages from most of there lineup u idiot...not to mention great seasons by pettite, wells, cone rivera....baseball-reference.com...yanks fans are so stupid sometimes....only someone who has NO IDEA whats going on would be the only manager to lose a 3 games to 0 lead in the ALCS....stop blaming the players for not performing... its the managers job to get the most out of the talent he has and whenever the yanks ar ein a game where the manager had to actually make a decision, Torre is jus sittin on the bench looking confused....what a joke...just hire girardi...a REAL manager

...also...the best team on paper usually makes it to the playoffs year after year...the hottest team wins it all....maybe should actually watch baseball and not just rely on your baseball card stats to actually known ANYTHING about baseball. Torre is dissapointing at best.

This conversation is so laughable to me. "Just hire Girardi... a REAL manager." Bah! Who do you think taught Girardi everything he knows about managing? I'm not even going to say who but think about it. Also, don't you think the dynamic of a former player managing a team filled with former teammates would create just a bit of an awkward situation? I don't see it working, and by all accounts it's Mattingly's job to have whenever it opens up. I think you should give Torre the respect he deserves. It's just that Steinbrenner brings in mercenaries almost every year, even back in the early years of the Torre dynasty, but the heart of the team -- Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Bernie Williams -- were home-grown and learned the game while playing for Torre. Give credit where credit's due, man.

Torrre is a great manager of people. He is able to get the big names and egos to just shut up and play ball, for the most part. As far as his in game management he may have to revise his "formula" for winning due to changes in personell and performance of that personel, he may be lagging in that dept.
So if the Yankees should win the Series everyyear, otherwise they are the worst, then The Sox should have come in second evry year, as trheir payroll is #2, or they suck too. This is not really fair, or reality based, now is it.

Big hurt...i pray that you are not a Yankees fan because if you are, you're making youself seem like a moron. I can understand not being happy with this years team, but to say that Torre isn't a "real manager" is just retarted. I bet you weren't complaining about torre when the Yanks were winning WS championships. Now that the team is struggling(and believe that the whole team will not continue to struggle like this for the rest of the season)you want to out Torre immediatly. Do you really think this lineup will continue to not hit? Damon, Abreu, Arod, Cano...come on. You know they will heat up and with pitching coming back to form i believe the Yanks will be ok.
And by the way, Cecil fielder, Daryl Strawberry, Doc Gooden, Charlie Hayes, were all in the latter stages of their careers and produced well above what was expected from them under Torre. Also, Jimmy Key was already a Yankee before Torre came to NY, the Yanks traded ROBERTO KELLY for Paul O'neil and Tino Martizez was twice the player in NY then he was in Seattle. So lets relax with all the they we allstars before they came to NY talk, because these guys produced well above what was expected, and that is partially due to Torre.

Who convinced Cecil Fielder, a perenial HR hitting machine, to hit against the shift and slap so many singles for the Yankees, instead of swinging away like the hero he was? Torre, that's who. And Cecil now has the ring to prove Torre right.
