Chapman not just bringing the heat

07:15 AM ET 09.05 | Of course, it's the triple-digit heat that earns most of the credit for Aroldis Chapman's success. [Chapman] was featuring a fastball that topped out at 103 mph Tuesday night. But what made him so effective was his slider, which clocked in between 90 and 93. A lot has been made about Chapman needing the ability to throw a second pitch for a strike. But catcher Ryan Hanigan, who directed Chapman through the 1-2-3, three-strikeout ninth, said he wasn't concerned whether the sliders were strikes or not. "I honestly use it as a chase pitch," Hanigan said. "I was really wanting him to throw it as a strike. I felt like they were going to be coming out letting it eat on the heaters." The hitters -- Carlos Beltran, Matt Holliday and Allen Craig -- represented as good a trio as you'll see.

He had a 2 SO ninth last night, too. The Cards still won in extra innings, though.

Lou, any word on Allen Craig? hopefully it's just an ankle sprain; he appeared to roll it pretty good trying to avoid Laz Diaz.

btw, the guy is a great ballplayer having a great season...would hate to see his season end b/c of that.

Its wonderful that think he's a great ballplayer and you'd hate his season to end that way. I'm sure Allen Craig is sitting there thinking, "Hmmm...I can't express how wonderful it is that ATLfan7 is thinking about me."

Get rid of your cat and get out of the basement already.

If you saw the play, I am wondering if the fact that the umpire was where he was threw Craig off and caused him to turn the way he did.
