03:10 PM ET 09.06 | It's been a season to forget for the San Francisco Giants. After winning two of the previous three World Series, the Giants have fallen on hard times this year and sit a woeful 21.5 games behind the first place rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Ace pitcher Matt Cain wasn't himself (and he also saw his first trip to the disabled list in his career), fellow starter Tim Lincecum has been hot and cold while storybook arm Ryan Vogelsong missed a good portion of the season with a broken hand. Now it's Buster Posey's turn as the Giants' backstop suffered a fractured finger during a game against the San Diego Padres earlier this week. The fracture is small, thankfully, so Posey won't be out of action for an extended period, though the Giants are obviously going to play it safe with the 2012 National League MVP.

And to make matters worse the hated-and-deservedly-so Dodgers are leading.
