07:26 AM ET 09.09 | Somewhat suddenly, whether Jacoby Ellsbury returns next season isn't the most pressing concern for the Red Sox outfielder. [Ellsbury] has a compression fracture of the navicular bone in his right foot, but manager John Farrell insisted Sunday that the team's leadoff hitter likely will return before the end of the regular season. According to a baseball source, the fracture is a tiny, hairline fracture at the top of Ellsbury's foot. The Red Sox are proceeding cautiously, but the source said that barring an unexpected setback, Ellsbury could be back within 10 days and probably no later than the final week of the season. The fracture is non-displaced, Farrell said, and Ellsbury will be in a boot for a minimum of five days.

Just knew the clock was ticking for an injury for him.

It's better news than hearing he's done for the season.

It will important for his next contract to portray himself as someone who will play hurt. He just disappeared from the team during his earlier injuries.

If he was signed for next year and they needed him now to make the playoffs he would be out there playing. Period. The Red Sox are playing this up , smartly, to keep his contract demands and competition for him down.

Nasty thing those kinds of fractures. He comes back too early, hits a foul ball off the top of his foot, and he could be out for long, long time.

The Botox are playing well - they can afford to sit him. Maybe even through the Division Series....
