Have we already seen Jeter's final game?

07:11 AM ET 09.10 | With Mariano Rivera, we've known since this past March he was retiring, and he reiterated that stance only a week ago. But there are now scenarios developing in which the remainder of the Core Four also could call it a career. Both Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte said they want to table discussions about the future until after the season, particularly not to bring personal matters into the Yankees' playoff quest. I still expect Jeter to play in 2014, but I do have some hesitancy after several members of the team said they could see the shortstop walking away rather than messing with his legacy if he does not believe he can get vitality back in his legs. And after implying in spring training he had his sights set beyond just 2013, Pettitte now speaks of having to make a decision.

He be back in 2014 for all his free parting gifts.

He deserves a final send off... but - at the same time - he does have a solid legacy, would hate to see it tarnished by a crappy parting season.

Mo is having a rough year by his standards.... it's not easy....

I just looked, 41 Saves, 7 Blown Saves, ERA 2.28, K/BB Ratio 5.06.....

This is still MLB level stats..... and he's still doing it with one pitch...... Damn.....

Andy Pettite is not having a horrible year. He's still a solid number 4/5 starter given his stats this year. I think he has one more year in the tank.... but - we will see.

Most of those blown saves though are in the last few weeks.Mo has been bad lately.

Especially now when they can't afford to lose ground in the wild card race.

True - but still a good year overall.... his cutter is just not moving all the time, like it use to.... for some reason, it just stays straight every once in a while, and there isn't enough velocity to allow it to "hang".....

Shame the Redskins lost at home last night......

<begins to ROTFLMAO..........>

He needs time for his ankle/legs to heal up. He keeps rushing back and getting re-injured. I would hate to see him walk away after this year. I'm running out of Yankees that I like!

I just wonder if he's just getting tired?

True this.... Jeter, and Mo.... the two I actually like.... after that, none of them have set the house on fire for being good examples.....

September 10, 2013  09:18 AM ET

Guess this is as good as any for the TotD....

September 10, 2013  09:19 AM ET

Does anyone else think so?

September 10, 2013  09:19 AM ET

At least it's not about what's his name and the Yankmees.....

September 10, 2013  09:20 AM ET

Orioles are playing well right now.....

So who does anyone think will make the WC in the AL..... Does anyone think TEX will faulter?

September 10, 2013  09:20 AM ET

It be fun if the WC was TB and CLE

September 10, 2013  09:21 AM ET

That would mean that the O's and TEX would be out....
