Spurrier's blunt assessment of USC

07:15 AM ET 09.10 | Coming out of the game, Steve Spurrier wasn't much for discussing the finer points of Saturday's loss. [Spurrier] made it clear -- South Carolina was bad Saturday, and the focus from here is to play a lot better. "We got out-played and we got out-coached," Spurrier said. ... While USC has sat and watched Georgia overcome a loss to the Gamecocks to reach the SEC Championship Game the past two years, if there's any hope of that reversing this year, USC isn't talking about it. Not the way it played Saturday. "We're not into that," he said. "Hopefully, we're just sort of back down to Earth. We're not a very good team right now. We don't have to worry about any kind of divisions, SEC championships. We're worried about going to a bowl game right now, that's what we need to worry about, winning seven games, eight games, if we can."

Georgia is pretty good so USCjr will be okay. Maybe not world beaters but still pretty good. Same for Florida. The U ain't bad. BYU ain't bad either but the way the rusty cows puked it up is very disturbing so they probably aren't any good at all.

Now, USC didn't play a very good team. The Pirate will have them good in a couple more years but right now they aren't.

Speaking of which, did you see the article from the book about the Leach/James feud? Interesting.

Never thought I'd hear TOBC admit he got out-coached. Besides, SCar has got the mighty J. Clowney. The season's young yet. Chin up.

Clowney boasting that Aaron Murray is scared of him, and ESPN's "How do you stop Clowney" campaign ... it certainly looks like that strategy backfired last week.

Murray looked really good. Imagine how much better he could have played if he wasn't so scared of Clowney.

Fear can be a good thing, as long as its channeled into a heightened sense of awareness.

No way they only have 7 or 8 wins with that team. It's not like they got blown out of the water. This is coach trying to light a fire, to challenge his team.

But, but, but...RoboMod HAD to stick in the obligatory CBBall thread for today. That's an important topic in September.

That'd be DocMadLab, I believe. Be sure include an evil, maniacal inflection to that laugh.

DC, good assessment of the SEC this year. IMO the SEC isn't all that good this year, but it's still early in the season.

SI is all the sudden coming up with a lot of "investigative" stories... almost like the National Enquirer of sports journalism. They just so happen to come out with this story the same day that they forced internet users to watch a commercial before being able to read their stories. They have made this section a site in which you either have to listen to a commercial the entire time, or put your computer on mute, or hit the pause button. SI must be having some problems financially and are resorting to last ditch efforts. The OSU story appears to be mainly the "testimony" of one disgruntled ex player.
