07:19 AM ET 09.10 | For starters, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has been invited by his country's hockey federation to participate in the Olympic torch relay that will begin in Olympia, Greece on Sept. 29. The Capitals open their NHL regular season in Chicago on Oct. 1. That means the Russian Hockey Federation is going to need to jump through some hoops if they want Ovechkin to get from Washington to Greece and back to Washington in the span of about 48 hours. "Right now we're just waiting for the Russian Federation to finish to [logistics] and timing," Capitals coach Adam Oates said. "Schedule-wise it comes at a very difficult time, which he understands." ... [The Capitals] had planned on their 27-year-old captain to play their final home preseason game on Friday, Sept. 27 at Verizon Center, then miss the exhibition finale.

Meh. It's one game. He missed like 60 last year and they still won the division.

LOL - Exactly Danny. Even if he's there doesn't mean he won't miss it.

Don't be a smart aleck. But, I agree with everyone else so far. A great honor which may only come up once in a lifetime. No controversy here.

Can anyone imagine what it would be like to do that flight , run the torch, and fly back in 48 hours ? The guy will be loopier then Edith Bunker on crack when he hits the ice.

Really he has enough vowels. It is an honour, I would do it if it's less that you know, a quarter mile.

Yes, and we don't want the Russians angry now do we.....

I do agree, but although my comment above has nothing to do with Ovechkin, some of his countrymen have made these feelings possible.

Who's is, and always has been the classiest Russian hockey player?

Canuck eh? That's a question for you, or Hank. No it's not PK Suddam!
