Steelers promote Jarvis Jones to co-starter

03:51 PM ET 09.10 | The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to re-tool their roster after a disappointing start to the 2013-14 NFL regular season and the latest move comes on the defensive side of the ball. Rookie outside linebacker Jarvis Jones, who started as a reserve player and part of the rotation, has been promoted to a co-starter with veteran Jason Worilds. Jones began his rookie campaign with three solo tackles, with two of those tackles coming for a loss, in the season-opening loss to the Tennessee Titans and one of those hits was a bone-crushing collision with running back Chris Johnson. To reward the rookie for his performance, Pittsburgh will give him a bigger role moving forward in a move that really comes as a surprise to no one.

By saying it comes as a surprise to no one, FanSided is implying its own reporting is not news,

By being a co-starter on a terrible unit is like being the raisin in the oatmeal cookie.

But is it a raisin in an oatmeal cookie or a raisin in an oatmeal raisin cookie? That makes all the difference.

Should'he happened a week ago.

Dude was a first round pick, and probably would've been a top five guy if not for his alleged spinal stenosis.

Doesn't take a brain scientist or a rocket surgeon to figure out he should get the bulk of the playing time.

For those of you who are wondering, brain scientists and rocket surgeons are actually much smarter than their better known counterparts.

That "terrible unit" to which you refer led the league in total defense last year.
That terrible unit will undoubtedly finish ahead of Denver's defense when all is said and done.

Agreed.

Pitt's offense appears to be in some serious trouble but their defense should still be good.

In January, should Pittsburgh still be playing and Denver be in off-season - I will eat my words. I didn't mention Denver - the article was about Pittsburgh's D. The Rooney family is one of, if not, the best in the history of the NFL.

They have some problems, Joe.

Don't eat your words, eat an oatmeal cookie with raisins instead.

It's all "grey" to me, when you got the munches you take and eat that cookie anyway you can.

Is there any difference between being a co-starter or a co-2'nd stringer?

To the backup yes. to the oriinal starter no. This is just Tomlin's way of motivating Worlds (starter). He did nothing last week so now he's a co-starter. If he does nothing again this week then he'll be the backup and Jones will be the starter. So, next week we'll get a 'Jones named Starter' post!
