Rays' season slipping away

07:11 AM ET 09.11 | Time is running short, a fact made more clear by Tuesday night's loss with David Price on the mound. They are falling. It does not matter how hard they flail, and it does not matter how seriously they kick. They are plunging toward Earth, faster all the time, past birds and through clouds. From here, the end looks as if it will be messy. The Tampa Bay Rays, in first place about 15 minutes ago, are suddenly crashing toward the rocks below. At this point, they seem more intent on catching Baltimore than Boston. Their season is slipping away, one torturous game after another. ... [Tuesday's game] was crucial if they wanted to imagine themselves as still in the American League East race, and it was very important if they wanted to stay ahead in the wild-card race. And the Rays whiffed.

And playing in a half empty stadium in a pennant race against your top rival is never a good site, so the fans are getting what they deserve.

The fans don't deserve it. All 12 of them show up to every game. The team just doesn't have a market

Pretty sparse crowd in Cincinnati last night, too.

Half the fans there last night were Sox fans.

It appears that Texas, Tampa Bay, Balt, Clev , and Yankees neither one seems to want the wild card spot. Both Texas and TB both have lost 7 of last10 games. Balt, and Clev. both have lost 6 of last 10, while the Yankees have split their last 10. A team to look out for is KC who has won 7 of last 10 and only 3 games out of last wc slot.

QUOTE(#6):

That's a fun story, but Cleveland and Baltimore have both won, not lost, six of their last ten. The Indians have won five of their last seven and the Orioles have won four of their last six.Kansas City is three back with four teams ahead of them for the 2nd wild card spot. A playoff berth for them, while not mathematically impossible, is improbable at this point.

Tough loss last night to KC, Slink.

The thing is, KC plays two of them head to head.... so, it could get interesting. And, Texas plays a couple of those teams as well. There is a good mix of games that will definitely add to the crapshootidy of the WC race.
