Can CC fit in pinstripes?

07:12 AM ET 09.11 | In terms of competitive makeup, CC Sabathia remains a No. 1, but this has become his worst season. He already has a career-high 12 losses. His 4.82 ERA is fourth worst among 39 AL qualifiers. ... The Yanks are aiming to get under the $189 million luxury tax threshold next year and have to steer a majority of available funds to address Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson (or their replacements) while probably having to redo the left side of their infield away from Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez. They could try to keep Kuroda and/or Pettitte, maybe even make a play for Japanese star Masahiro Tanaka. But in just about any scenario the Yanks cannot have Sabathia as a No. 4 starter, not when he has three years at $76 million or -- if his vesting option clicks in -- four years at $96 million still due.

CC has been worth every penny, regardless how the next few years play out.

Yes, like the CSNY album: "So Far"

That pachyderm's body is going to break down eventually, do you want to be holding that straw?

I think he's just a tad weak. Long season you know. Maybe get him on a weight-lifting program and have him gain a another ton or so to keep his strength up. Of course, for him a weight-lifting program is just getting out of bed in the morning.

He has to. He ain't going anywhere. If he is a three or four guy in the future, so be it, that means three guys are better than him. How is that a bad thing?

I think you're right, Kenny. Even with this clunker of a season, his stats over the five years he's spent with the Yankees are those of a beast.I have a feeling that the Yankees think the way you are about the large contracts - if they get top notch performance for four or five years, anything above that is gravy. At the end of Sabathia's current contract, the Yankees will have paid him $182M, which divided by five years is $36M/yr. That might be a little on the high side, but when a guy like Zack Greinke is making $25M/yr, is thirty six for Sabathia really that out of line?I hope Sabathia bounces back and has another great season in 2014.

He needs to convert some of the belt mass, to muscle mass...... but He has the capability to come back strong next year.

CC has lost a considerable amount of weight this season, the picture above is from 2010.

The Yankees got some problem in keeping Cano, Granderson, replacing Jeter and A-Rod, plus build up their line-up, and of course you still have Texeria who is also draining your bank account. They need to start making some good trades, free up some cash, or watch it crash really quick.

With all that flubber I would think that's a certainty.

Funny, I thought the writer meant he WEIGHED as much as a #3 & #4 starter combined.

Yes - I saw that. But I wonder how much of it was "just fat".... sometimes, your balance can the thrown off with weight loss, and the inches involved in pitching could have been impacted. I think he needs to just lose a little more, then work on mechanics all winter, and he should be good to go next year.

That horse left the barn when they signed him.

They got a ring so it was worth it.

My thoughts exactly - but stated more eloquently than me.

Me too. CC has been a stud since he has been with (and before he was with) the Yankees. Having gotten to watch him pitch every 5 days for the past several years, I can say that I've never seen a pitcher gut it out when he doesn't have his best stuff like CC does. Plus, he says all the right things to the press and from all accounts is very well liked in the clubhouse.

I heard that he has a really nice scotch collection. It doesn't hurt to grease the skids a little.

I THINK THEY SHOULD KEEP HIM, IN FACT, I THINK THEY SHOULD GIVE HIM EVEN MORE MONEY
