Why ex-Wing Cleary bolted Detroit

07:24 AM ET 09.11 | For Daniel Cleary, the decision to leave Motown came down to simple math -- and timing. Cleary balked at the Red Wings' original contract offer before free agency opened in July and when general manager Ken Holland moved forward, that left no place for the veteran forward to continue his career in Detroit. ... "We would have loved to have signed him back," Holland said Tuesday. "We tried to sign him prior to July 5 (and the start of free agency). We made him an offer and that moved a little bit but ultimately it wasn't anywhere near where he wanted it to be. "We signed Weiss and Alfredsson and with the signing of Jimmy Howard, the cap money was gone." Cleary, 34, will reportedly receive $2.75 million per season for three years when he's able to sign with the Flyers.

With all the talent gestating in Wings farm system, we would be calling Ken Holland nuts for giving Cleary that kind of dough.

I've got no problem, letting the grizzled vets on the downside of their careers filter themselves off the roster to let some of the talented and hungry Calder Cup winners and Prospects Tournament champs try on the winged wheel.

about as well as they go with anything else
When a main ingredient of anything is "Cheese Hwhiz"....I'm guessing "pairing" is not really a concern

LOL - Love the Hwhiz.

And going from the Wings to the Flyers isn't going to help the Newfie negative stereotype.

You really don't want to start this do you?

A newfie's wife passed away and he called 911. The 911 operator told him that they would send someone over right away and asked him where he lived.
"At the end of Eucalyptus Drive'" the newfie told her. The operator asked, "Could you please spell that for me?"
After a long pause, the newfie said, "How 'bout if I drag her over to Oak Street and you pick her up there?"
