07:30 AM ET 09.12 | For much of the summer, Daniel Cleary's hockey future seemed rather murky -- until the Flyers appeared on his horizon, but it's back to took another strange turn Wednesday. TSN's Aaron Ward reports there was a clandestine meeting between Cleary, Red Wings general manager Ken Holland and coach Mike Babcock on Wednesday morning. There was no sign of Cleary at Centre ICE Arena as players were taking physicals. Holland and Babcock met with the media, but there was no mention of Cleary. ... Cleary, an unrestricted free- agent forward, texted reporters this week confirming he had a three-year, $8.25 million contract in place with the Flyers. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren told Philadelphia reporters he expects Cleary to be in camp when it opens today.

he'd better start wishing for some blue line help
14 "gritty forwards" may not be the answer here

what a mess. I read somewhere the Fly-by-nighters were trying to get him to come to camp and train with the team on the condition that he has to wait until the season starts to be signed due to da cap.

"Cleary saga grows more bizarre"

What's so bizarre about a player wanting to be signed to a contract .... even if it is Philadelphia?

Well, for one thing Flyers fans haven't learned to dispose of batteries safely yet.

Holmgren keeps saying Cleary has only been invited to camp. No contract can be finalized until they put Pronger on the LTIR which will open up cap space. Cleary's agent keeps saying a contract is signed and Holmgren keeps denying it. I don't understand the need for a circus over a potential third liner. Snider has got to replace Holmgren.

It's only unsafe if we hit another fan with them.

If true, the Flyers can invite Gagne to camp now.

It seems to be true, Cleary said in a text Thursday morning he is arriving in Traverse City this evening and signing with the Red Wings.

An ernest joke if you will.

QUOTE(#15):

I don't get it. Why would Cleary pass on 3 years and almost $3m/per, for this?Is Philadelphia really that bad a place that less money and less security in Detroit is a better option?!

He stated from the beginning that he'd rather stay with the Wings. Getting $1.75 garunteed is better than an invite to camp that may or may not lead to a contract. The 3 year contract info was probably just his agent trying to get the Wings to do something. I don't think it ever existed.
