07:39 AM ET 09.13 | The agent for Derek Stepan, who remains unsigned and out of camp, said the Rangers' top center is seeking fair market value -- and that's probably where a different definition may be shared by the club. "Derek isn't interested in negotiating his contract through the press, but there's been a lot of speculation out there about what he's asking for, and this and that," [Matt Oates] said in a phone conversation. "We just want to make sure there are no misconceptions. Derek has put himself in a category with all those guys coming out of Entry Level who received long-term contracts," he said. ... "I think it's beneficial for the Rangers to lock him up long-term, but if that's not possible at this time, we're certainly willing to engage management on a short-term deal in order to get this done and get Derek on the ice."

Richards will be a top center in the league this year. He will return to form. Get a bridge 2 yr. deal done for Steppan which will get him past (ugh) next yr. We will be good with Richy, Brassard, Moore, and Boyle (yuck).Rangers got a plethora of LW's (Nash, Hagelin, Pyatt, Zucs, Powe) and hardly any RW's after Cally you have Asham and Dorsett.

With next yrs. FA class looking like doomsday for the Rag's, time for mngmnt to see what Borque, Hrivik, Miller, Kristo and Fasth are worth. I'd pay Steppan and if it goes in the tank early flip King Henrik for some top picks at the deadline.

There is a bit of $2 million in Cap space.

"We just want to make sure there are no misconceptions.......

..... Derek wants a boatload of money and he wants it NOW! Get it, Slats? NOW!!!"

So Stepan's agent wants fair market value? Why do that when dealing with Slats? This is the man who once spent $88.00 for a tomato.

Why use vaseline when salad dressing will do? When she's done ... she can chop 'em up and ... lunch is served.

Why would they be interested in an Italian who lived outside Detroit when Hoffa disappeared?

I noticed though, it doesn't say where the agent was going to stick that olive branch.
