09:22 AM ET 09.14 | The Giants and agents for Hunter Pence have begun discussions on a long-term contract for the right fielder, a sign that the team is serious about locking him up before he becomes eligible for free agency after the season, and that he is open to the idea. "There are conversations," Pence said before batting practice Friday. One source described the talks thus far as "minimal," and they probably will not accelerate until assistant general manager Bobby Evans returns from the Dominican Republic. But the mere dialogue offers hope for the team that it can keep Pence off a free-agent market that sorely lacks power hitters. The Giants are working on a deadline to keep Pence out of free agency. They lose their exclusive negotiating rights five days after the World Series ends. After that, he could sell himself to the highest bidder.

The guy has bad luck this season. To pitch as well as he has and only be 14-9 is a travesty.

QUOTE(#9):

Pence and Posey are a good tandem. Deal the Panda, or move him to first. Come up with a better defensive 3B, and the Giants will be okay.

Panda is a lot better defensively than people think. People see his size and think he's a defensive liability. The reality is he's one of the better defensive third basemen in the NL.

SF wants to resign Pence. Will SF and pence Squabble over amount? A lot depends on how bad Pence wants to stay in SF and how bad SF wants to keep Pence.

there is no need to move the Panda from 3rd he is good defensively. much better than some third basemen around league
