09:38 AM ET 09.14 | Flyers chairman Ed Snider said Friday afternoon that general manager Paul Holmgren and coach Peter Laviolette have his backing this season and neither are on the "hot seat" when the season starts. The Flyers didn't make the playoffs last spring for the second time in this decade. A lot of eyes focused on the moves that Holmgren was unable to make before the lockout began last summer, citing it as one of the reasons the Flyers failed so miserably last season, along with a rash of injuries. "They're not on the hot seat," Snider said. "Not at all. I don't think anybody can look at the job Paul Holmgren did in the offseason this year and not say it was outstanding. Every move a GM makes isn't going to be perfect. They all make mistakes."

Snider said that they weren't on the hot seat. That usually means they'll both be gone by mid-season.

Rich Peverley to be out three weeks after having procedure to treat irregular heartbeat

Stars GM Jim Nill announced this morning that center Rich Peverley had a procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat and will miss the next three weeks. Peverely can skate, Nill said, but can???t participate in any form of contact.

"It turns out he had an `a-fib??? condition," Nill said. "He???ll be out three weeks and should be available close to the start of the season. He might miss one or two games."

Nill said the procedure entailed shocking the heart and getting it back into rhythm. He said that the training staff did a good job of picking up the problem when looking at his EKG during his physical.

"The medical staff did a great job, they recognized this," Nill said. "They picked it up on the EKG, and he???s going to be fine."
