09:46 AM ET 09.14 | Texas athletics director DeLoss Dodds said he has no intention to step down from the job he has held since 1982, a point he emphasized Friday. "I've not made any plans to retire at any time," Dodds said in a phone interview Friday. "When I do, I'll give you [media] guys plenty of notice." The 74-year-old Dodds spoke after Orangebloods.com reported that he would step down as athletic director by the end of the calendar year. The story said that Dodds would transition into a part-time consulting job at his current $1.1 million salary, which he would continue to receive for the life of his contract through 2015. The blowback from Dodds and Texas was strong. The university's official Twitter account (@UTAustin) noted that "reports that AD Dodds is stepping down are absolutely not true."

He's denying the rumor. But that doesn't mean it's not being considered (even if he's not the one doing the considering!)

How many coordinators can Mack blame before the powers wake up and realize where the blame lies?

Damn good point!!! Somewhere along the line MB has to "Man-up" and take some of the blame!!! This is also true with Kiffin!!!

I think it's being denied because the powers that be weren't ready for the story to break yet.

Dodds takes a lot of blame, some of it deserved but most of it not. He has hard-to-please UTx fans blaming him for everything they don't like. He has Nebraska fans blaming him for unresolved issues from 1998. He has TTech fans blaming him for their 2nd class citizen mentality. He has A&M fans blaming him for trying to keep them down. His diabolical plot to break up the Big 12, hoard all the money and rule the world was of Roswellian proportions. I blamed him for my car breaking down the other day. It just seemed like the right thing to do.

If I was Dodds I'd stay just long enough to earn that $1.1 million guaranteed retirement bonus and get out while there is still some enjoyment to be had in life. Let a younger guy put up with all the whining and blame-gaming.

It is what head coaches do. They take credit for the wins and blame the assistants for the losses.

I laughed when I read DD say, about their HC (I can't say MB anymore) that he (DD) isn't a knee-jerk reactor and the HC was doing well and would stay around.

Bet Diaz wishes DD was the HC....

LOL
