10:08 AM ET 09.14 | Conventional thinking heading into Blackhawks training camp was that Teuvo Teravainen was a lock to return to Europe for another season. At 19, the Hawks' top pick (18th overall) in the 2012 NHL entry draft is flashy and oozes high-end offensive skills, but is thought to need more seasoning before making the move to North America from his native Finland. It appears that is no longer a sure thing. "Right now, there is no plan from where I'm at," coach Joel Quenneville said after watching Teravainen more than hold his own during a scrimmage at Notre Dame. "You could really see the difference from one year to the next as far as (Teravainen's) growth and how much bigger he has gotten and quicker and stronger. That's progress you're looking for." Teravainen is undergoing a shift from wing to center, where the Hawks hope he will develop into a long-term solution at the position. He said a return to Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League is likely.

Wouldn't it be better to at least put the kid in the AHL where he can get some experience with North American hockey? I don't think that the Finnish Elite League plays quite as rough as the boys over here do.
