10:31 AM ET 09.14 | The Twins, who on Wednesday night were embarrassed 18-3 by the Oakland A's at Target Field, were losing 8-1 to the A's in the eighth inning Thursday afternoon when owner Jim Pohlad was spotted walking through Target Field's Legends Club among spectators. "It's embarrassing to walk through the concourse and see all these people in Twins shirts and then look at what's happening on the field," Pohlad said. "It's embarrassing." Pohlad, whose club could lose 90 games for a third straight season, was embarrassed enough to say he plans to infuse the Twins with enough free-agency capital in the offseason, if that's what it takes, to become competitive again. "I am going to help Terry (general manager Terry Ryan) however he wants me to help," Pohlad said. "We made a couple trades last year; I'm not sure that we can rely on that this year. So if we're going to do something, it's going to have to be that way (free agency)."

Buying players via free agency just shows that management is inept and can't build a farm system or a major league squad. Free agents and trades should augment your team and not be the basis of the team.

QUOTE(#2):

we've got 2 of the top (5 or 10 depending on whose list you're looking at) prospects in the minors, as well as quite a few others that should be good. This team was destined for sucktitude when Terry Ryan stepped down for a few years as GM. He's done a good job since coming back. It's not quite time to spend yet, Pohlad. 2015 when Buxton and Sano are ready for everyday play.

You have the right of it. We went from having one of the 3 or 4 best GMs in the league with Ryan to one of the most incompetent in Billy Smith. It's going to take a bit of time for Ryan to undo what Smith did.

The entire state of Minnesota is embarrassed by the Twins, not just the owner of the team. In fact, the entire northern hemisphere is embarrassed by the Twins. Even when the Twins are competitive, which is a rare occasion onto itself, they're so intimidated by the Yankees that they never make it to the following round of playoffs. The memory of Harmon and Kirby deserve better than this current crop of malcontent limp wrists, and that goes double for the 20-million dollar man.
