08:24 AM ET 09.15 | Blackhawks coaches and team executives want to observe a lot of things during training camp, but the sight of All-Star defenseman Duncan Keith throwing rapid-fire punches at a teammate likely isn't one of them. Keith and forward Ben Smith avoided injuries during a spirited scrap in the waning moments of a scrimmage Saturday at Notre Dame. "It happens," said Smith, whose chances of making the Hawks last season were hindered after suffering a broken hand in a fight while with AHL Rockford. "We're competitors. We're out there to compete and work hard. I'm trying to win a spot here. It's just one of those things, part of the game. I'm just happy neither of us got hurt."

At least Duncan didn't have to worry about losing teeth.

So you broke your hand in the AHL and you figured the way to make the team is to risk breaking it again?

September 15, 2013  09:59 AM ET

Nothing like a good fight to build camaraderie.

QUOTE(#6):

It's what training camp's all about, and maybe the only reason I enjoy it. Carter Ashton slashed (and hurt) Fraser McClaren's wrist at Leafs camp yesterday and gave a good hit to Gunnarsson, too. For a kid trying to make a name for himself with a coach who loves tough guys? LOVE IT!

Do you also love the fact Morgan Rielly was paired with Mrs. Pinch?

No, I didn't think so.

And why are on here this morning? I thought you'd be at the rally asking for an Federal Investigation on a HNIC broadcast without.......gasp.....the Leafs.

Rielly's playing with Holzer tonight. I'd much rather he be paired with Pinchy. Hell maybe he'll smack some sense into him.

As for the second part, i'm in the third paragraph of my angry letter to Ron Maclean. I know where you live, Ron...

LMAO - I think you'd have better luck appealing to Don. After all he missed his Saturday night action with no Leafs to kiss.

".... I'm just happy neither of us got hurt."

Yeah. Nobody cares if Duncan Keith got hurt. Nobody would miss him anyways. But you? That'd be catastrophic! The Hawks wouldn't be able to recover. ;-)

...... by punching the head of a guy that's lost 7 teeth from a slapshot and kept on playing?

Not a very smart move, son.

Ahhh Keith can take it....good Canadian boy! That's a comment with a Cherry on top.

Smith is just an uncouth punk. Keith doesn't need to prove anything to him or to anybody else for that matter. The man is tough as nails and has 2 (two) SC rings to prove it. That Smith punk ought to be calling someone like Duncan Keith, "sir," and count it a privilege to carry his bags to the car for him, leave alone being on the same sheet of ice with a man of his stature.

Just keep taking the little **** to school, Dunk. He needs to learn respect for his elders.

Pretty bold statement, considering you have no clue who started the fight and why.

Actually a dumb comment.

Yes! Your are very right. I like your passionate position on this. He also won a Norris, didn't he?

He doesn't have anything to prove. He also has a gold medal from Hanks Limpics! ;)

Enlighten us.

So.....why was the fight started, and I don't think it's a bad comment at all. The only time in Keith's career I've questioned, is the same time I question anyone who uses the term "Cup Hangover" to excuse their lack of effort.

Other than that I have a lot of respect for the man, Smith may be a decent guy to play with and maybe is a nice fellow in person, like many fighters or tough guys are, point is......regardless of the reasoning.......Keith shouldn't have to even pay attention to someone who hasn't done much yet...so....did Keith say he was gonna bang Smith's wife? Please, and I'm being sincere.....enlighten us.

Here on these threads we have a little fun and talk the game.

Smith had 47 points in 54 games at Rockford and on 13 PIM; that doesn't look like the numbers an enforcer puts up, does it?
