09:51 AM ET 09.15 | Derick Brassard joined the Rangers amid a whirlwind race to the finish last season and flourished, scoring five goals down the stretch and adding 12 points in the playoffs. Now, with a full 82-game season ahead, Brassard is especially eager for the puck to drop on the 2013-14 campaign, as the Rangers will probably feature a high-speed offense under their new coach, Alain Vigneault. Brassard has had to settle any lingering issues he had with Scott Arniel, his former Columbus coach, who is now an assistant on Vigneault's staff. Brassard said he had no bad feelings after Arniel benched him in late 2011. But Allan Walsh, Brassard's agent, accused Arniel of "burying players and using them as scapegoats to mask his own lack of success on the ice." Arniel said any problems that arose with Brassard had been created by Walsh's statements. Fired by Columbus in January 2012, Arniel joined Vigneault in early July, when he took over the Rangers after they parted ways with John Tortorella. Brassard congratulated Arniel the day after his hiring. "Everything's good between us," Brassard said. "Arnie could be a great addition to our forwards. We are here to help this team on the ice."

He was traded for Marian Gaborik so you'd think he could bury something.
