07:05 AM ET 09.16 | The Patriots don't care much for headlines, but, in his absence, a certain receiver is causing a stir. While a source [Sunday] night indicated Danny Amendola has suffered strained and torn groin muscles, there's a difference of opinion as to whether or not the Patriots receiver also has a sports hernia. The significance being that the latter malady has a greater impact on his timetable for return. The source told the Herald the Patriots do not believe Amendola has a sports hernia, and that opinion was supported by another hip specialist. However, there was another doctor consulted who disagrees, and given that diagnosis, Amendola would require surgery. ... Surgery for a sports hernia would keep him out a month or more. It's believed Amendola has not committed to one diagnosis or the other.

They were saying he would miss 6 games for the groin.

This idea of "being healthy for the playoffs" doesn't work if you don't make the playoffs.

Honestly DD, I wouldn't count on this guy to be healthy in the playoffs either for more than 1 game.

Hail to the Redskins!

There is still a lot of football to be played, but I fear we'll both be watching somebody else's teams come January.

They will still win that division, but need serious improvement to get beyond 1 playoff game.

I think your guys will make the playoffs. I'm most worried about the Patriots when they are desperate, but this is about as grim as it's been in the Boston area for quite a while.

A serious miscalculation letting Welker walk.

Here's an outsiders take on both teams......

Confidence can come back in a series. I think RGIII will regain his swagger and run off 5 or 6 wins in a row. His play will make the defense play better

The Patriots have Tom Brady. Nothing more needs to be said.

There's no fat lady singing anywhere.

The NFC East is in a serious mess! Flip a coin at this point.

The entire Patriots organization seems to have a sports hernia this season. Maybe all teams have to go through this at some time, but the Pats seem to be holding on by a thread.

Two mistakes. Letting Welker walk and picking up a guy who has played one full season in his five years in the NFL.

And replacing him with a guy on crutches.

I think Edelman is the only active receiver right now that Brady has any familiarity with.

He knows Hoo-Man a little, but he's really a blocking TE. Thompkins will be OK once he learns to get both feet down in bounds. Other than that, well, it's wait for Gronk, I guess, or bring back Deion Branch.

I thought they would have brought in Branch when they had extra days in between games.

No fat lady singing over here ---->> That's for sure.

With the running game suffering Brady's gonna run this guy into the ground.

The issue with hernias is they don't seem to fully heal. There's something about the old muscle scar tissue that leaves an inherent weakness.

September 16, 2013  09:25 AM ET

I shouldn't have picked Amendola up for my receiver corps, I knew he was injury prone.

September 16, 2013  09:34 AM ET

BB will clear this all up on his injury report the League this week.

It will read something like this: Amendola-Missing right leg, left arm, two fingers on his right hand, the little toe on his left foot. Game time decision.
