07:12 AM ET 09.16 | Welcome to the fray, Deron Williams. Asked about teammate Paul Pierce's assertion that the Nets will eventually take ownership of New York from the Knicks, Williams told ESPNNewYork.com, "That's my teammate so I'm with him. Of course we want to run New York. The Knicks are our rival. I don't get into too much of the talking. We'll decide all that on the court. We have four games to play against them and then the playoffs so I'll let Paul do the talking and I'll just go out there and play." The Knicks and Nets have engaged in a war of words ever since Nets forward Pierce told ESPN New York 98.7 FM in August, "I think it's time for the Nets to start running this city." That sparked responses from Raymond Felton and J.R. Smith, who called Pierce "bitter" and added that there "will be consequences" for his words.

The Nets are like a bogus Rolex watch you buy on the streets of NY. It looks good and might work for the short term but it will never be a real Rolex.

The new gangs of NY...

Pierce and KG have skins in the wall. Felton and JR have none. They should just let their game do the talking...

I get that they are having fun, bantering in the off season.....But i do wonder why these net guys are targeting NY, instead of MiamiThe goal , I'd think , would be to win the east, not the Atlantic

"Asked about teammate Paul Pierce's assertion..."

There you have it right there. We, as fans, spend too much time looking at the headlines and the player responses. Many, many, many more times than not, players are asked about the same stuff over and over and over again. They are just answering questions. I'm sure if someone had asked Williams if his goal was to beat the NYK for the Atlantic or beat the Heat to win the East, his answer would have been the latter.

They'll never own New York. Kind of like the Clippers will never own Los Angeles.

sure.and I don't necessarily think it is bad to try and spice up a rivalry, that well, frankly, never was one.Cause when NY was good- NJ was badwhen NJ was good, NY was bad...rivalries are only good when both teams are good.If they finish 4-5 as I expect....it will be a HELL of a fun time in NY if they meet in the playoffs

honestly, i am thinking the nets will get further this season than the knicks.

yes it certainly is bullitin board material but will the knicks actually use it as motivation is the question. I mean, their PG retired & is now coaching their arch enemy so it will b interesting 2 say the least.
