Ryan Kelly in danger of failing to make Lakers roster

06:05 PM ET 09.17 | In the NBA, second-round draft picks do not receive a guaranteed contract. For the Lakers, they ever hardly build their team through the draft, but rather rely on trades and free agency. Drafted 48th overall by Los Angeles, Ryan Kelly could be facing that harsh reality. Marcus Landry was signed yesterday, and he showed a lot of promise for the Lakers in the Las Vegas Summer League. Kelly has missed all of the offseason activities so far, as he battles a foot injury. Drafted out of Duke, he was seen as a stretch 4 that fits D'Antoni's system perfectly, and was assumed to make the team. We will see how things unfold during training camp in LA. I just wish Landry would leave those dreaded sleeved jerseys in summer league where they belong.

This guy could do wonders for the Lakers. He played for a top program at Duke.He wears sleeved jerseys - the trend of the future. He even fits D'Antoni's system - as the article itself admits. He's a white boy, so Kobe won't feel threatened by him. The Lakers need to swallow their pride and get this guy on board. If they lose out on this opportunity, their season may be doomed !!

Who the --uck is Ryan Kelly??? The guy hasn't play a pro game and he is already injuried!!!!

He'll make the team. They could stash him on the IR to start the season.

LOLOLOLL

all Lakers fans did was talk about how good this guy would be "in DAntonis system!"

he SUCKS- its why he was picked where he was picked....a slow guy who can hit an uncontested 3 but cannot play ANY defense or get his own shot

that just does not play at the NBA level

You know not of what you speak. How does any of what you said make Ryan Kelly any different than Brad Miller, Steve Novak,, Steve Kerr or Jeff Hornacek? They've all had pretty good careers in the NBA.

A hot shot Dukie is Ryan Kelly which you'd know if you followed college basketball. But of course no USC booster follows college basketball. Do the Trojans even field a team anymore??

Actually since this is an NBA trhead, you might want to look at how many former USC basketball players that are in the NBA Vs. former Duke basketball players!!!

who is this Landry you speak of? I'd rather take the college kid out of Duke than someone who is an 'average' at best player...

Ryan Kelly, get that foot problem solved. You're in the perfect place to earn a roster spot. The system is there for you to take advantage; a big guy that can make shots without taking it to the rack. I watched Ryan Kelly play at duke against Miami and he absolutely dominated with his outside shooting; you're going to get an avalanche of shots like that in Los Angeles. Sign the contract and get into the gym.

The problem is that the Lakers don't want him because of his foot injury. They're not wasting a roster spot for him.
