07:26 AM ET 09.18 | Theo Epstein was quick to point out that Dale Sveum has done a "remarkable job" maintaining a good clubhouse environment despite two rough seasons in Chicago. [But Epstein] also said the manager was being evaluated with the rest of the coaching staff and a decision on his future would be made after the season. Asked directly whether Sveum would be back in 2014, Epstein said they will go through a check list, and added "there are no alarm bells to ring" but it is a subject that will be addressed once the evaluation process is completed. ... The Cubs lost 101 games last season, and will not finish with 100 losses this year but will likely be in last place in the National League Central. "I think we've been very up front that we're not evaluating Dale on wins and losses," Epstein said.

This thread is too easy. So when is their target date? 2017? 2020?.... 25?

"There's always next season", was invented by the cubbies.

The Cubs are in the same boat as the Twinkles, no playoffs in the near future, so you might as well keep Dale as your manger.

Nah, hire somebody cheaper!

A 7 game improvement over last year at this date.

Not exactly a reassuring statement for Sveum.

Not bad, considering the sheer lack of talent he has to deal with.

Cheaper than Sveum? Have you tendered your application?

Agreed. I don't know how you can really hold him accountable for W-L given the roster he has had to work with.

I think the bigger issue for the Cubs is whether or not the young players they've invested in like Castro and Rizzo are going to pan out long term.

Exactly. Judging Sveum on how he deals with the younger players is really what they need to be doing.
