07:34 AM ET 09.18 | On the scoreboard, the Capitals lost a close one, but they did manage to keep the gift of health for Alex Ovechkin. Calling the conditions "kind of dangerous" and "kind of scary," [Ovechkin] was able to get through his 28th birthday without sustaining an injury in the Caps' 3-2 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins Tuesday night at 1st Mariner Arena. With 4 minutes to play in the second period, Ovechkin crashed into the boards, dislodging the plexiglass. The pane of glass narrowly missed Ovechkin and broke on the ice. "I just try to get the hit and I miss it," Ovechkin said. ... "Watching the replay, that was very scary," Capitals coach Adam Oates said. "I think that's what happens when you don't play in a building for a while. But it didn't happen again, so good for that."
