Sampson may lose Hoosiers job

Indiana basketball coach Kelvin Sampson could be fired if allegations of recent NCAA violations at the school are determined to be true. The NCAA, quite simply, has branded Sampson a cheat and a liar. That's essentially what the 14-page "Notice of Allegations" the organization has sent to the school means. More specifically, that notice claims he violated recruiting restrictions imposed on him for his previous involvement in violations at Oklahoma and then denied doing that. In all, it cites five major violations. Athletic director Rick Greenspan indicated Sampson's future is tenuous.

Firing the head coach of a team looking like a potential player in the NCAA brackets in the Hoosier state? Talk about a state-wide mourning period...

Sometimes, and not very often lately, it is still sweet to be a Big blue fan:)

Thats what you get when you hire a cheater.

What happened to that zero tolerance policy that cost Bob Knight his job?

February 14, 2008  08:51 AM ET

Ouch.

PS What happened to that zero tolerance policy that cost Bob Knight his job?

Cap'n Bly

So far these are officially "allegations," meaning they are not yet substantiated. That would be like sending someone to the gallows without the trial.

no one trusts him after he stole gordon away from illinois. not saying he didnt recruit him legally but there is just something shady about this guy. specially when you consider his past...

IU head coach unemployed? Bobby Knight unemployed? Let the trolling begin!

No choice but to terminate him.

Ohio State's loss in the lawsuit was an investment well spent in restoring the program's Integrity

February 14, 2008  10:27 AM ET

I guess that IU is re-thinking their decision to fire Bobby Knight, or should be. His personality may be caustic, but he does not cheat.

Sampson and Greenspan will both be gone. Book it.

STL - you are so off base. Sampson may not have technically violated any rules, but he obviously violated the code of recruitment by aggressively pursuing a player that had already committed to Illinois. Gordon was going to Illinois until Sampson and daddy twisted his arm. As far as why would anyone go to Illinois? Well, maybe just because even though they are down this year, they have been the dominant team in the Big Ten this decade.

February 14, 2008  11:17 AM ET

If a player on his team had cheated in school and gotten caught, not only would they be off the team, they would be kicked out of school. This guy obviously doesn't understand how to play by the rules, either at Oklahoma or Indiana, so his **** has to be fired.

I'm not sure why you are so hostile.......but if you believe that there are no unwritten codes of understanding or ethics in recruiting or in any professional field that 99% of the people in those fields adhere to.....then I think the "idiot" term you used is a self-description.

Sampson should obviously be fired immediately.
