Brees blasts Goldson for 'going after guys' heads'

07:10 AM ET 09.19 | When asked about Dashon Goldson on Wednesday, Drew Brees didn't hold back. What are your thoughts on [Goldson's] hit and his suspension being overturned? "I didn't see that, so what, he was suspended for a game and then it was overturned? We don't make the rules. I know he has had a lot of those. He certainly has no regard for the rules in the middle. He is going after guys' heads, you can see it." ... Does this seem like hypocrisy from the league? "Obviously there is an evaluation process that goes along with it. It's hard when you are coming off a game where that was one of our guys that he was going after on more than one occasion. And then obviously the hit on Jimmy (Graham), which wasn't him (Ahmad Black), it was another one of their guys, but it was obvious they were going at his head. I have no sympathy for that."

Brees has the traditional QB mentality that any contact with a ball carrier should be outlawed. He'd probably be happy if all QBs were allowed to wear their red jersey during regular season games. I don't watch NFL games to see Bree's throw meaningless touchdowns in meaningless games to steal a record from an NFL legend. I watch the games to see some LB taking the head off of a bill carrier.

exactly!

This is from a guy who remained completely silent when his team had an established bounty program on other players in the league. Just like a saint right!

Just Drew shooting the breeze.

If they can hit him and make his uniform dirty how is he to win another super bowl?

Surely not by sucking it up and playing through it...

"Going after guys heads" is frowned upon by the Saints? Clearly, the Gregg Williams era is over in New Orleans.

I have a great deal of respect for Drew Brees and his remarks with regard to head-hunting in the NFL. Given the performance of his teammates in the Championship Game against the Vikings when they targeted Bret Favre, it's at least ironic that the Saints are the ones complaining.

September 19, 2013  09:22 AM ET

If there is anything the Saints players hate, it is a dirty player on another team trying to hurt somebody and put them out of the game.

Funny how Brees had nothing to say about " Bounties " , claimed he knew nothing about it.

Guess he found his religion.

Do as we say, not as we do I guess.

What? I have NO respect for Brees as regards that sorry episode and the bounties. Go back and do your home work. He defended Payton and the organization concerning it on talk show after talk show and t reporter after reporter.

His final analysis, and I quote: There was nothing to it, the league made it up because that is the decision they wanted on their investigation. It was all coerced. "I would say that a lot of those coaches were living in fear of their careers if they didn't quote-unquote cooperate.." Brees on the evidence and testimony given.

NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello response to Brees: "..completely" disagreed with Brees' assessment.....The investigation was thorough and includes statements from multiple sources with first-hand knowledge about the details of the program, corroborating documentation and other evidence," Aiello

Brees is the last guy in the room to talk about cheap shots.

Quit whining Brees. Your team benefits from these BS defenseless WR calls more than any team in the league because everytime its 3rd and long, you just throw a high pass to Graham or Colston and hope they either catch it or get a penalty called. Stop exposing your players so often and maybe the monster hits on them will decline.

It sounds like Drew Brees has joined the Ndamukong Suh " Do as I say, not as I do " club.

The 49ers when asked about the clip block by Seattle on Ian Williams that broke his ankle and will keep him out for the season only responded with. " Its legal ", we may not like it, " But it's legal "

I can see why Drew Brees would complain though. It is because of the NFL inconsistencies in dealing with every situation.

If you ask me this overturning of a suspension is almost as bad as when Richard Sherman was not penalized for using PED's. He admittedly drank from the same bottle as Browner who had to sit out a 4 game suspension for using PED's. They say the test was compromised. They didn't need a test for Sherman.

I used to try and stand by Roger Goodell. But the way in which he has run the NFL for the last 3 seasons has been embarrassing.

Brees was on the other side of the fense during "BOUNTY GATE!"

Get used to him, it is his job for life. The owners love him after the last CBA deal. The rich got a whole lot richer after that one. And team salary caps are still lower than they were five years ago but revenue is way up......
