College football's best offseason hire

07:23 AM ET 09.19 | After a few weeks, the line forms behind Mark Helfrich at Oregon or Bret Bielema at Arkansas, but there may be an even more significant candidate. There wasn't a better coaching hire this past offseason than Cam Cameron. There's not a single coach who has done more for a team's championship hopes than the man who, when we last saw him in college football, was being run out of town at -- of all places -- Indiana. ... Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to Zach Mettenberger, 2.0. Three weeks into the season, no one is throwing the ball better than Metteneberger, who last season couldn't be trusted to throw a pass away. And you know what that means? LSU might just get the national championship it could have -- and probably should have -- won over the last three years. "We're a team," says [Les Miles].

I have it on good authority that LSU is going to finish the season at 4-8.

I do believe that LSU games will be entertaining this year, and I do not foresee a 9-6 outcome among them.

So where is the old sand bagger? How long before he admits all that "we are in decline" was just a load of do-do? And 8-4? No one believed that.

September 19, 2013  09:52 AM ET

Opps, meant 4-8.

At least it appears he was right that UF was in decline.

I do not agree that the line forms behind Mark Helfrich or Bret Bielema. Helfrich is a system guy playing with Kelly's recruits. Beliema hasn't done anything yet (except bring in Alex Collins) and will likely have a losing record by the end of October.

There are better hires made, IMHO
