07:27 AM ET 09.19 | The Rangers will head west for this portion of the preseason, and they will do so without Derek Stepan. "At this time now, I'm functioning as if he's not here," [Alain Vigneault] said following Wednesday's session during which the club worked exclusively on the power play. "I look at Oscar [Lindberg], the way he's skating. I really liked Monte Cristo, Danny [Kristo]. I really liked Danny. I like young [Jesper] Fast, also. [In envisioning the team], I'm looking at duos, like Richie [Brad Richards] and Nash, I'd like to see if that can work out," he said. "I'm looking at [Derick] Brassard and [Benoit] Pouliot; I've looked at [Dominic] Moore or Brian Boyle with Dorsett. "Ryan [Callahan] is not here, Haggy [Carl Hagelin] is not here and Stepan's not here," said Vigneault. "I'm playing the guys who are here."

I think...like $4 a yr. and a multi-year deal. I think Sather offered a bridge 2 yr. deal but not at $4. Rag's got about 2 mil in cap space....

One good season does not warrant that kinda jump esp. during the cap-age. Keep it mind because Richie shat the bed, he got the ice that he did; often centering Nash.

If I'm Sather, let em sit. Too many young guns that need the chance to prove/disprove themselves. Big off-season coming up, need to figure out what Rag's got now.

That made entirely too much sense to be posted on here.

With the cap (yes, I know, kill the cap) going way up next year, it makes me wonder how many "gentlemen's agreements" are out there between clubs and these RFAs.

"It's just one year, next year we can help you back up the Brinks truck"

I think you're going to like Alain, he is a winning coach and with what he did with what he had, think what he'll do with men this time:)
