07:16 AM ET 09.20 | At the very least, Kobe Bryant was back in the Lakers' training room on Thursday morning. [Bryant] continued rehabbing on his surgically repaired left Achilles tendon, the latest involving running at 75 percent of his body weight on a treadmill. Lakers athletic trainer Gary Vitti expects Bryant remains a "few weeks away" before advancing to full-weight bearing running, though he added "there's no projected date" on whether Bryant could play in the Lakers' season opener Oct. 29 against the Clippers. It all fits the Lakers' conservative approach in ensuring Bryant doesn't return from an injury he suffered April 12 before it fully heals. "He's doing well and has had no setbacks," Vitti said Thursday at his trainer's office at the Lakers' practice facility in El Segundo.

So much for the black mamba. Like I said, the Achilles is often the kiss of death in a sport where jumping is paramount.

No. The NBA kiss of death is signing with Cleveland...

I would hate to watch Kobe play at less than himself. He has set such high standards.

That's the order I would go with. Kobe, Bynum, then Oden. Kobe is determine to make it back before the 1st game while the other 2 are just content that they have a contract and are in no hurry.

What about DRose?

You make a good point Jack. Lakers are not going anywhere as long as Dumby is the coach. Kobe should take his time like DRose did, but he is a professional and fierce competitor. So he will play if he feels he can do it.

MMA, what up? How are you on this Friday?

Kobe is DONE. Achille's injuries are so tough to come back from. Not that he won't eventually recover, but to actually make it back before the beginning of the season in a month or so...not happening. Besides, what does he have left to prove? He's won every conceiveable award the NBA has to offer except citizen of the year, so I think he can ride off into the sunset and never have to regret anything he's accomplished in his storied career (at least on the court).
