07:24 AM ET 09.20 | Despite some interest in Austin, Nick Saban isn't likely to lead the Longhorns, something he made clear during his weekly radio show. Saban's agent, Jimmy Sexton, was reportedly contacted by a regent and former regent from the University of Texas. The phone conversation, according to the Associated Press, occurred two days after Alabama beat Notre Dame in the BCS National Championship Game. The call was to gauge interest in the Longhorns job if Mack Brown were to step aside. Asked about the report by Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News, Saban said he was unaware of any contact. ... "We really feel like a part of the community here and we have a lot of good friends here." Then he topped it off to a large round of applause. "And, quite frankly," Saban said, "I'm just too damn old to start over somewhere else."

"but it wasn't a serious offer"....

Get that in first. :)

As soon as I read that Tom Hicks was a part of this, I just laughed.

Any self-respecting Longhorns fan should be appalled that fraud is still classified as a "former regent".

Other than $$$$$, why would Saban want the Texas job?

September 20, 2013  08:11 AM ET

I believe Saban saying what he said as much as a I trust a pedophile to babysit my kids. Remember, he wasn't going to take the Alabama job either when he was coaching the Dolphins.

Nothing worse than having an Aggie governor, who was a member of the corp of cadets, appointing regents. Thank goodness the Senate has to confirm them before it's a done deal.

This is all you need to know about the situation. "Joe Jamail, a billionaire trial lawyer who is one of the top donors to Texas, is Brown's attorney. When asked about the conference call with Sexton and the lunch meeting, Jamail said Hall was acting on his own and threatened to sue anyone outside the university if they try to pressure Brown to resign."If there are any more, get ready for a lawsuit," Jamail said. "Mack has publicly stated he wants to coach." "Hall is under impeachment investigation by the state House of Representatives and lawmakers have complained that Hall has tried to force out university President Bill Powers, who has been a strong advocate for Brown. Steve Hicks has been among the regents backing Powers in a public spat that has embroiled the board members and state lawmakers for more than a year. ""Wallace Hall brought this to the chairman and myself. Nothing was authorized by the board and the chairman and myself thought the board should not be involved," Steve Hicks said.As I said before Texas never offered anything and wasn't looking to replace the Coach. A regent without the cache to make anything happen and wants Mack, Dodds and Powers out talked to an agent. You might be able to do the same and it would carry the same weight. Until Mack loses the support of Dodds, Powers, Jamail and McCombs Texas isn't looking for a coach.

That's what I said, only in fewer words.....

and how can someone seriously sue another person just because they want them fired? I mean you can sue for anything, but really????

Powers has his hands full with Hall, Hildebrand (a major Perry campaign donor) and Aliseda (A&M grad), all regents that were appointed by Rick Perry. It's the main reason Powers has left Dodds to sort out the troubles in the athletics dept. Powers is too busy fighting to keep UTx from being turned into a giant university of Phoenix.
