No 'mental hurdles' for Rose

07:13 AM ET 09.23 | Derrick Rose hasn't played in an NBA game since tearing the ACL in his left knee on April 28, 2012, but that seems very likely to change soonish. "I'm feeling good," Rose said. "Right now my legs are good. Just trying to stay positive and keep my emotions from exploding knowing that the season's around the corner." After such a long layoff, everyone will be curious to see if Rose will be back to his old self or if he will be rusty when he returns to the court. "Who knows when I'm going to get my rhythm?" he said. ... Rose was asked about limitations and hurdles involved in his comeback. He brushed off those questions and looked forward to his preseason debut Oct. 5 at Indiana. "I wouldn't say (there are any) mental hurdles, but I think it's just going to be an emotional day," he said.

He'll likely sit out more...

If you're a ball player than rhythm should not be a problem. It's either you can play or not. It's instinct!

"No 'mental hurdles' for Rose"...

Those aren't the hurdles that matter. The physical ones are the ones you need to tackle...

If you can remember how to!

Good morning, jgb, Doc Pepper, Heat champ/raptors, Docmadinajad, and Oleskool...how are ya this morning?

As for Rose, it'll be interesting to see what the chemistry will be in relation to Rose's abilities. Will he attempt to re-assert himself as the unquestioned team leader, which will completely wreck the chemistry that the remaining guys have established, or will he resign himself to a role where he tries to fit into what they've already built? Soap opera in the making...

Just Do It, Bro.

agree- it will be interesting to see how the dynamic works.do they run through a wall for Rose or do they hold any grudges cause he didn't do it for them?

I say that they hold grudges, and from key players like Noah and Deng, and especially Boozer, since he appears to be the most tempermental out of the group. They are professionals, true to life, but it's exceptionally difficult to want to put it on the line for a guy who seemed to hold you at bay and refused to do the same for YOU when you could've really used his help at the most crucial time of the season.

In fact, I will go further and say that his arrival into the roster will either cause the Bulls to explode (because he's going to want to assert himself, and therefore will end up pulling a Russell Westbrook and shoot themselves out of games), or implode (locker room chemistry will tank, and the in-fighting about control/leadership of the team ends up with the head coach getting canned and upper management breaking the team up in a year or two)...

Hey, Retired Army in San Antonio...so what do you think the future for your beloved Spurs is gonna be? Have we seen the last great run for the Duncan/Ginobli/Parker combo, or do they have one more in them? Your thoughts, sir....

I agree. I would not warn him of a pick being set. Or simply play hero ball for a while and take shots that wasn't part of the play etc.
Rose is a punk.
Now that being said, IF Rose can play anywhere close to what he was 2 years ago, this team is scary good. For all the crap he takes, Booze has had 3 solid years with the Bulls. ANY team would take his numbers as a #2, or even a #3 option behind Deng. Noah is a beast, and Deng is a very efficient scorer and a defender. Plus guys like Taj coming off the bench.

Yes I hate Rose (now), but I would like to see him play healthy and fast, so they can put on a show against the Heat.

I will agree that the move to not play last year in a heated playoff battle was a serious punk-move, and if the team was feeling even the slightest of alienations against Rose before that, he made SURE he pissed 'em all of with his refusal to play.

However, I also agree that if (a HUGE if) he is even close to what he was 2 years ago, this team is more scarier than even Indiana, whom I see is the next front-runner to the Heat in the East.

Yup. It certainly seems that way.

QUOTE(#18):

If rose is smart- he should try and aim for 15 assists a game, rather than scoring 20+he needs to set up his teammates for a while after last playoffs

Smartness in professional sports often gives way to ego, and his ego (IMO) will not let him set up his teammates and win them back before he starts going ham on the scoreboard. He'll go ham in the points FIRST, then look to his team mates when opposing teams start trying to shut him down. I could be way off base, but his refusal to play last year when he had been medically cleared to play was a sure sign that he put HIMSELF above his team, and that philosophy has never really worked in a TEAM sport.
