Cap concerns have Pens prospects on the bubble

07:29 AM ET 09.25 | Pittsburgh's Oct. 3 opener looms, and cuts remain. The Penguins have to be down to a roster of no more than 23 players -- and the salary-cap ceiling of $64.3 million -- by Monday. Precisely how the Penguins will reach that isn't clear, although team officials haven't ruled out sending one or more veterans with one-way contracts -- the kind that pay the same amount, regardless of where a player is working -- to Wilkes-Barre. Such players would have to clear waivers before joining the Baby Penguins, but up to $925,000 of each one's cap hit would come off the books if they are demoted to the American Hockey League. The Penguins' cap-space issues reduce the chances of them keeping promising young defensemen Olli Maatta and Derrick Pouliot, who have junior eligibility remaining.

So are veterans or rookies staying? Flaky writing.

No reason to clip wings on Penguins....they can't fly

Draft picks..of the 1st round variety.....should be more IMO...say if a club is 2 million over the cap the team has to pay double that PLUS draft picks.

well that depends on the team....Dwarfus will probably AWARD them a draft pick (Pittsburgh draft conspiracy tweak)

It's not so much the writing. It is just that no one has a clue. Bylsma (don't get me started) loves to hold on to the old guys, and not really give the young guys a fair shot. He seems to have something against Depres and Bennett, and giving these guys a fair shot, and Shero baffles me anymore.
