NCAA may ban horse-collars

Horse-collar tackles, already banned by the NFL, may be outlawed in college football, too. That rule change is among those proposed by the NCAA Football Rules Committee. Other suggestions include making chop-block enforcement less complicated and ignoring incidental face-mask contact. The proposals put forth by the committee during meetings this week now go to the NCAA membership for comment. They must be reviewed and approved by an oversight panel before they can go into effect.

They need to just like the NFl and also with the growth of NCAA football they need to re-look the pass interference penalty of 15 yards and make how the NFl does it if; it;'s 30 yards downfield them it's a 30 yard penalty. the kids playing nowadays are stronger, faster, and know the sport allot better than players of 20 years ago

The horse-collar has to go. Cuse I agree with changing the pass interfernce rule. If you're 40 yards down field and obviously beaten, why wouldnt you just take the guy out.

If the Horse Collar is too dangerous for the NFL; why would it be allowed in college? If you are beat, you are beat, don't end someone's career with a cheap tackle.

Horse collar rule change? Good Idea! Still being able to tackle some nancy with hair down to his ****? Needs to stay in place.

Im okay with most of those rules, but they shouldn't get rid of the incidental face mask rule. Its to risky, someone could get their neck twisted off, even if its an accident.

I didn't know you could horse collar in college.

February 14, 2008  06:39 PM ET

MSFC - if you're beaten, you probably aren't in position to take the guy out.

"may ban" horsecollar tackles - they should also "may ban" face mask or helmet to helmet hits..... these things are common sense people, just punish the violent plays.

What the hell is my horse supposed to wear when he goes to college? Tell me that Mr. Smarty-Pants-Horse-haters!

The NFL outlawed this form of torture because upon impact, you risk the chance of breaking someones gold diamond studded necklace. NFL SUCKS!!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR NCAA FOOTBALL TO START.
