Twitter feud reveals something deeper in Wade

07:15 AM ET 09.26 | Dwyane Wade and Kevin Durant trading barbs on Twitter comes freighted with all sorts of angles. [The feud] is silly and fun and stupid and great, all at once. It also reveals an underlying poignancy, which is the only reason the exchange is interesting in a larger sense and worth exploring. ... The cynic might think the whole thing is an arranged feud to set up a sequel to the wake-from-a-bad-dream Gatorade commercial they did together, but I doubt it. It feels too real, and, on Wade's end, too raw. This little feud is interesting mostly because it peels back a curtain on Wade's mind and reveals how sensitive he is to his status as an elite player, and to that being questioned -- let alone by a rival all-star. This isn't cocky ego flexing itself in Wade. This is wounded pride.

Wade was, is, and always has been a dirty punk.

How can KD having anything to say about a guy who has the rage to win, plays hurt and is productive?
KD is soft!
He defers to Westbrook more than he takes over.
In the finals OKC won game 1 due to Westbrook, whom has the alpha dog gene in him.
Durant would rather guard Chalmers.
Then Westbrook was hurt this past playoffs vs Memphis and what did Durant do?
Miss free throw in the fourth quarter after miss, miss big shot after big shot.
So until Durant leads a team to a ring, and has a rage to win no way can he even carry Wade's jock!

Hmm sounds like a bitter knick fan that wishes his team could finally get to a finals appearance with Melo...
But I don't blame you...

Bzzzzzt. Wrong. I say as I've said, the Knicks will never be successful as long as Dolan own the team.

So hate on Wade for what?
He's done nothing to you, he has a rage to win and is an all around player, he's earned his 3 rings and is still elite. He worked his arse off...

KD was wrong in answering which player to replace. He should have said no comment on that one.

KD is anything but soft. He only defers to Westbrook because he has to. If you look at their run to the Finals two seasons ago it was Durant who carried the team the whole way hitting big shot after big shot. If anything Westbrook slows the team down. In a few years everybody is going to be holding Durant in the likes of Jordan and Kobe. The kid is just too flawless a scorer. Stop hating on the kid and be real about it. The kid is primed to take over as the leagues best player, don't be surprised if he does it this season.

Thank you Swauny...those were my thougts as well. KD is getting better each and every year. Working on weak areas of his game.

September 26, 2013  10:08 AM ET

His only weakness is his passing. The kid does everything very well. it won't be long before he is totally unstoppable. especially at his height. baring any injury it's gonna be really scary how this kid takes over the league as the years go on.

The only thing I wish had been different as far as this interview goes is instead of KD falling for the baited question by the interiewer...he instead just smiled and said, "no comment" or "Everybody has an opinion on that"...or something.
