10:57 AM ET 09.29 | Two-time NBA championship coach Erik Spoelstra is finalizing a multiyear contract extension with the Miami Heat, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Spoelstra could've become the most sought free agent to hit the coaching market since Phil Jackson, and likely staved off a bidding war next summer by choosing to re-sign with the only franchise he's ever known. The deal is expected to be made public before the start of the Heat's training camp in the Bahamas this week, sources said. While most league owners and executives expected Spoelstra to ultimately remain with Miami, several franchises have intimated to Yahoo Sports they would've been prepared to pursue Spoelstra with the zeal of a star free agent had the Heat been unable to complete a deal to keep him.

He won't be w/ the Heat forever. His job as coach there will end as soon as the Heat stops winning championships. He'll probably end up coaching in the west coast.

he's done a fine job- but the bottom line is whether lbj stays cause look what happened in boston- once the best players left, the team went to the toilet and there is no reason to have a high priced coach

I don't know what the salary is. I wouldn't think we would be "high priced" as in PJ or Doc money.
Erik's made the most of his opportunities, kudos to him.

The Lakers need a coach like him.

Haha, good comment. Of course, if he were truly enamored with her, he could simply take her with him. On the other hand, it's not as if other teams don't have their own hot cheerleaders as well.

This site is being taken over by sexist pigs!!!

One of the few (if not only coaches) to rise the ranks in one organization and end up winning titles as a head coach. From video coordinator to head coach Coach Spo has come a long way. Definitely deserves a long-term deal, and gotta respect the way both sides are going about this.
