07:30 AM ET 09.30 | Coming out of the weekend, courtesy a Mathieu Perreault trade, the Capitals appear to have set their roster for the start of the season. Perreault, 25, spent his entire professional career in the Capitals organization but there were signs he might be edged out of the lineup during training camp as Coach Adam Oates experimented with first Eric Fehr and then Martin Erat at center. "I was trying to figure out what was going on, just like everybody else seeing all the guys in the middle, and when you look back at it, they had to make room on the cap space for some of the new guys they liked," Perreault said. ... "With me being just a little over a million on the cap I know I was the target. I've told them before I want to play and they didn't want to have me be on the bench or in the stands anymore."

All about the $$$ situation of the Caps. Same with every NHL team, right?

I dunno. It said his cap hit was a little over a million. That's is the real world equivalent of pinching pennies.

A little over a million is a little over a million on anybody's world. I don't think he'll be going bare foot or dining at Taco Bell wishing it was KFC.

sounds fair....he wants to play, no room at C, Caps need $ space......

I do not know who this is.

The fact that he has no hyperlink indicates the interns don't either.

Sorry to see him leave. Good kid. Gives effort. But, I think they made the right decision.

He'll cry all the way to the beach everyday. Not much of a scorer anyway, 33 goals in 159 games.

I think that makes him a better scorer then Helm.....

Helm is young enough to still have potential, as young as Perreault is, like Roy Orbison sang ''it's Over"
