07:20 AM ET 10.01 | Of course, after Game 163, Nelson Cruz became a very popular man in the Texas clubhouse. [Cruz] spoke softly as the media horded around his locker following Monday's tiebreaker game with the Rays. He praised David Price. He called the crowd's reaction to his first at bat "special." He spoke highly of the Rangers and their young players, saying the team a bright future. When he was first asked about whether he was a part of that future, Cruz -- a free agent -- danced around the question. Eventually, though, he stated his intentions. "I want to be back," Cruz said. "(But) I don't have control over that. They've got to make a decision." Cruz came back from his 50-game suspension on Monday and went 0-for-4 in what may be his final game as a Ranger.

.....cruz will be back to dh and spot start in the field on getaway days....his value has fallen and he is now more affordable.

Hope he's back... but it is a business.

He should have pulled the needle out of his butt before the reporters got to his locker.

Cruz will not be back and not making the fall classic will cost Washington his job.

I agree about Cruz but not Washington. I think he'll be back.

I have to say, I though the Rays throwing a big celebration after the game was stupid. They had to play that game because they choked away two games against the Blue Jays. All the win last night got them was another do or die game. Not worthy of a wild celebration. And I'm a Rays fan.

I pay no attention to anything you say ... you have no inside information, you have no insight into the game in general and your total ineptitude in comments and predictions make you look like ... well ... your moniker

October 1, 2013  09:47 AM ET

as for the story ... it's the DMN ...

as for Cruz, well ... everybody here knows how I feel about PEDs ... I know it's a business, etc, etc, yada, yada ... the sooner he's gone, the better ...

Never failed a test to this day. MLB does not test for what players are taking.

When players accept their 50 game ban with out any kind of challenge says that whatever came out of the biogenesis records must have been very telling. Teams will have to decide if they want to retain those players when they come off of suspension or trade them.

I think Washington is going to be fired he has led texas to winning records, but does not do well in post season. Beginning Sept. it looked like a cinch that Texas and Tampa Bay would be the two wild cards. Then Cleveland gets hot winning just about every day while Texas tanks , losing constantly. Only winning just enough to tie with Tampa bay to force a tie breaker game to decide who will pay Cleveland.

Can't believe idiots still stick up for this drug cheat... deny deny deny... he's a cheat, an admitted one as he didn't fight the suspension; but folks like 50YearFan who stand up for him when he wouldn't stand up for himself, who deny what even he didn't deny, you're giving him a standing ovation? That's on you. Amoral, as in zero standards for behavior, and absolutely zero class.

I don't recall 50 every giving anyone tainted by the HGH scandal "a standing ovation"...

Cruz did his time. Is there something else you want from him? It's not like he pulled a Ryan Braun and destroyed another person's life by pointing fingers and lying through his teeth.

Sounds to me like you want athletes to be paragons of virtue and honor. I recommend looking elsewhere.

If Cruz stays in Texas Or where ever he might turn up, it will be interesting to see what kind of numbers he will put up next year. Same with all of the others will do. Ryan Braun numbers next year will be interesting to see if he still puts up the numbers similar to last few years.

What record would the Rays team have finished with if they were managed by Ron Washington, and what record would the Rangers have finished with if they were managed by Joe Maddon? I doubt they would have been meeting in a 163rd game playoff...
