07:24 AM ET 10.01 | Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez's off-week may just be extended through the Cornhuskers' Big Ten opener Saturday -- thanks to a turf-toe injury. Martinez, a fifth-year senior with more than 10,000 yards of career total offense, missed Nebraska's Sept. 21 victory over South Dakota State, snapping a streak of 32 starts dating to his freshman season. ... Martinez did not practice during Nebraska's off week. He also sat on Sunday as preparations began for the Illini. The Huskers did not practice Monday. "It's still to be determined," coach Bo Pelini said. "I think he's getting closer to being 100 percent. He's feeling a lot better." Teammates said they feel confident with the backups but that they've noticed Martinez's eagerness to return. "It's killing him," senior offensive tackle Jeremiah Sirles said.

I kind of hope he does'nt play. The back ups looked very good and give us a mix and change of pace. Both of them looked more confident than Taylor has Every since he got hurt and they nagged him about throwing first and running second he has not been the same. We should be able to run the ball against them and that should open up some passing.
I hope Bo has the secondary coached up or we are in for a long day.
Nathan Scheelhaase is a very good Q.B. and is we cannot rattle him and keep him contained he can put up some big numbers.

Agree 100% - Taylor hasn't looked good all year and I don't know if the toe has been giving him issues from the start but I think Armstrong runs the option better and both seemed more poised in the pocket. I'm scared to see if Scheelhause picks us apart because we struggle with mobile QB's. I'll be in the stands for this one, hope they don't disappoint....

We will fly up Saturday morning and then have to fly home as soon as the game is over. I just hope we try and put pressure on him and not just stall at the gaps.

flying on your own plane or commercial from where?

Martinez's performance was getting worse with each game played. Pelini had to know before last week that he wasn't 100%. Turf toe only heals with time and rest. With a bye week, Illinois and I think another bye week, this is the smart thing to do. Like most teams in the Legends, November is when it will all be decided for the COC.

Illinois, Purdue (a bye week of sorts) and then another Bye week, he should be healed....

I hate that it takes you less time to get there from TX than it does me from 90 miles away...

It takes longer to fly but we land at a friends place and it is about a 45 minute drive from his place.

I cannot see Their Nebs unraveling to the Illini. Yeah, 'Nois has a QB who's the type to frustrate the Black Shirts, but, come on! Lose another home game and to a team that was 2-10 in 2012, is 3-1 in 2013, having defeated So. Ill., Cinci, and Miami (OH), and lost to UW in Chi-town? Please. Just, no.
