07:25 AM ET 10.01 | A shakeup looms in Austin. Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds will announce Tuesday afternoon that he will step down next August after 32 years in the position, three well-connected sources told the American-Statesman on Monday. Dodds, 76, will announce his retirement after vigorously denying a report earlier this month that he would leave his job before the end of this year. Dodds will stay on through Aug. 31, 2014, and will remain on as a consultant through 2015. ... The source said Texas President Bill Powers will lead the search for a successor and would very much like to have the position filled possibly before Dec. 1 although that's probably overly optimistic. The source added that West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck, a graduate of the Texas Law School, would be an important candidate "to keep an eye on."

Choose wisely, Bill Powers. This is not the position befitting a "wow-factor" hire. Forget all the whining and blame the fanbase and the media has thrown Dodds' way. Choose wisely.

Yep, needs someone that understands its a $Bil enterprise that only stays way proportional to the wins you get.

Dodds, despite the recent complaining, did get well over 100 conf champs and around 15 nat titles from 12-15 sports during his tenure.

Never.

I'm with WPS on this one...seems there was talk a while back that the plan was Dodds retire and MB move into that position.

I understand now why that will never happen, but I do remember that discussion at one point.

If Texas could lure Joan Cronan back into an AD role, she'd be the best hire. Unfortunately, I don't think Joan's interested in being an AD anymore, no matter the money.
