Cap games have Flyers pushing D-man's signing

07:29 AM ET 10.01 | By a number estimated at about $25,000, Paul Holmgren's Flyers are cap-compliant. For at least the first day of the 195-day season, teams must include the salary of their injured players, like Chris Pronger's $4.94 million deal. "When we put Chris on long-term injury, it gives us salary-cap freedom," Holmgren said. ... The Flyers saved themselves from further cap trouble by waiting to sign veteran defenseman Hal Gill to a deal, though it seems like that might happen [Tuesday]. ... "There's nothing really there at this point," Holmgren said, though he can't say more because handshake deals are not permitted in the NHL. "I'm going to talk to him again and see where we're at." Gill smiled and said he wasn't in any rush. "I don't really have a whole lot else going on," Gill said.

"Gill smiled and said he wasn't in any rush."

Well, Gill, for as long as we've known you, you never were in any rush, especially on the ice. ;-)

Oh how amazing it would be if Pronger suddenly showed up and said "Put me in, coach!"

But he'd be wanting to play center field.
