07:19 AM ET 10.02 | After 14 NBA seasons, Corey Maggette would like to extend his career, and that opportunity presents itself in San Antonio. With 14 Spurs players in training camp with guaranteed contracts, one roster spot is available to the six who reported to media day Monday with make-good deals. Of the six, only [Maggette] and Sam Young have significant NBA experience. ... Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Maggette and Young were brought to camp as potential backups to small forward Kawhi Leonard, primarily because both have the strength to defend bigger forwards. "They're both big, strong people for the position," Popovich said. "We want to see if that fits for us, to have another person there behind Kawhi. Marco (Belinelli) and Manu (Ginobili) can go there, but they're a little bit slight for some of the teams we're going to play."

Corey Magette??? Sheesh! Oh well. If anyone can get something out of that lump, it'll be Pop.

Sam Young would be a better pickup because he is younger and may stay healthy compared to CM.

I trust the Spurs to make the right choice. They look deeper than talent. They look for character.

they haven't made wonderful personell decisions lately.they just have a fantastic coach, system and stars that get it

I cannot call him a 'fantastic coach" anymore after his Ginobili and Bonner obsession. The Heat didn't win 2013, the Spurs gifted it to them. Especially Pop.

Spurs were in need of a big at last year's camp. They brought in a number of players, but let them all go and picked up Aron Baynes mid-season. Might be the same pattern here. But they do need a backup sf.
